Why You Need A Rose Water Mist In Your Skin Care Routine

Misting a facial spray makes me feel like I’m frolicking through an English meadow, but what does it actually do for the skin? While a good smelling face spray is important, there is more to a face spray than a pleasant olfactory experience. We have a handful of your most asked questions about our Rose Facial Spray and we’re here to tackle them one by one.

First off, what is in a hydrating facial spray and what does it do?

A hydrating facial spray is a light toner that can be used throughout the day. The key to a good hydrating spray is that it must contain humectants - a substance that draws in moisture from its surroundings. According to Dr. Leslie Baumann, a professor of dermatology at the University of Miami, examples of humectants are aloe vera, glycerin, olive oil and sugar alcohol such as sorbitol. You may have noticed that our Spray All Day Facial Mist contains all of the ingredients above and more for that extra kick of hydration. For more information, check out Dr. Jaimie Glick’s interview on how facial sprays increases hydration levels.

Facial spray frequently contain extracts that specifically address a skin concern. For example, our Hydrating Rose Facial Spray contains rose extract. Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce redness and astringent like properties that cleans pores and smoothes skin texture. It is also a vegan ingredient which aligns perfectly with our values.

Are face sprays necessary?

Great question! If you have dry skin or suffer from dehydrated skin, a face spray is an important part of a well balanced skin care routine. Unlike a heavier moisturizer, a face mist lightly hydrates the skin so it can be used throughout the day. We recommend using a facial spray at the end of your skincare routine, for that final boost of moisture your skin is looking for. Especially for those with dehydrated skin, giving yourself a few spritzes throughout the day will keep your skin looking plump and glowing.

When should I use a facial spray?

There isn’t one ‘correct’ time to use a facial mist. We suggest using it at the end of your skincare routine for dewy skin. If your makeup is looking a little dull or matte, a face spray is a great way to bring back the glow. If you have dehydrated skin, a couple of mists throughout the day will refresh your skin.

What’s the difference between a face spray and a setting spray?

It’s easy to confuse the two. However, there are major differences between them. First off, a face spray is a skincare product, usually to moisturize the skin. A setting spray is a makeup product. It acts as a primer to help seal your makeup and prevent moisture from ruining your cosmetics. A setting spray contains a tacky glue like substance such as PVP, which creates a barrier between your makeup and outside moisture. While it is great for maintaining your makeup, it does not promote hydration and should not be used throughout the day.

Does your face spray contain fragrances?

We get this question a lot and it’s easy to understand why. Our Rose Facial Spray smells just like roses (shout out to our product dev team)! But no, it does not contain fragrances. It has been well documented that fragrances in beauty products cause allergic reactions, which is a big no no. The luxurious scent you are smelling is from rose extracts and rose essences.
