The Best Types of Ingredients for Skin

What Are the Best Skincare Ingredients?

A question we love hearing here at grace & stella! The truth is, it is not that simple to narrow down the ingredients that are the best for the skin. Yes, it would be amazing if there was one list to simplify it but sadly it cannot be done!

Your skin is the body's largest organ which means it requires a lot more than a few ingredients in your skincare products to be able to nourish your skin and make it look younger. Think of it like your diet: the body requires several types of foods to obtain different nutrients for nourishment, so does your skin!

To ensure that your skin is looking at its best, make sure your skincare products contain several ingredients that fit in these three categories: These categories are antioxidants, skin-replenishing ingredients, and skin-restoring ingredients. Each group includes several of nourishing ingredients that help nourish your skin and make sure it's looking its best!

Antioxidants

If there was a magic potion that can help correct signs of age, brighten skin tone, help repair itself and help prevent sunburn, it would be antioxidants. Antioxidants are ingredients in skincare products that help stop, or at the very least lessen, the visible impact on skin that the environment has. Using skincare products with antioxidants in the ingredients will results with you seeing fewer signs of aging and you'll have a more vibrant, healthier-looking skin tone! You can call them "fountain of youth!".

Skincare ingredients which are antioxidants:

1. Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is one of the most studied antioxidants available on the market. Other than being a free radical scavenger, vitamin C has other skin benefits, like boosting collagen production and fading dark spots.

2. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an important vitamin required for the proper function of many organs in the body, including the skin. Aside from being a powerful antioxidant, vitamin E is widely recognized for its ability to accelerate the skin’s healing process.

One of the key ingredients in our Cleansing Balm is Vitamin E! Our Cleansing Balm easily remove makeup, dirt, sunscreen, and environmental pollution. Made with synthetic beeswax, to harness the effectiveness of beeswax, while staying cruelty-free and vegan.

Skin-Replenishing Ingredients

Skin-replenishing ingredients help strengthen and revive skin’s surface, supplying long-lasting bursts of hydration. The results of these ingredients helps skin look and feel soft, smooth, and supple. With ongoing, frequent use, skin-replenishing ingredients help skin resist moisture loss and maintain an enviably smooth, plump appearance.

The most well-researched skin-replenishing ingredients are among the following:

1. Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Hyaluronic acid is a clear, gooey substance. Think of hyaluronic acid like a BIG drink of water for your skin. It is able to hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. Hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin and binds water to skin cells, infusing all layers of the skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture.

Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum improves your skin's moisture balance and texture. Super lightweight and amazing for all skin types, this serum can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots and blemishes while brightening and protecting your skin.

2. Glycerin

Glycerin is a skin replenishing and skin-restoring ingredient. It’s one of the many substances in skin that helps maintain a healthy look and feel, defending against dryness and working to maintain skin’s moisture level.

Glycerin is a key ingredient in our Anti-wrinkle + Energizing Eye Masks! These beauties help dark circles, puffy eye bags and fine lines! The collagen and minerals in our eye mask revitalize and rejuvenate the delicate area around your eyes, leaving you looking more awake and youthful.

3. Glycolic Acid

A type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that can act as a water-binding agent and as an exfoliant. In its capacity as an exfoliant, it can help shed dead skin to renew skin’s surface, visibly softening the signs of aging, particularly from sun damage. Glycolic acid is one of the most effective and well-researched forms of AHA.

Glycolic Acid is a key ingredient in our Dr. Pedicure Foot Peeling Mask! This foot care product will unbelievably shed the old, dead, callused skin right off your feet. Made with the exact same 17 vegetable extracts to this day and promises to deliver the jaw-dropping results.

Skin-Restoring Ingredients

Skin-restoring ingredients have a special ability to care for skin’s surface in a way that helps transform it to appear noticeably younger. These ingredients can bring about a renewed feeling of firmness and, over time, a more even-looking complexion.

Skin-restoring ingredients also help improve a dull skin tone and rough texture, and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—including deep wrinkles. They work beautifully with antioxidants and skin-replenishing ingredients to give aging, lackluster skin the total package of what it needs to look younger and more radiant on numerous levels.

1. Hamamelis extract

Hamamelis Extract is produced from the leaves of Hamamelis virginiana L. Its key benefits are to improve blood circulation and help with anti-aging.

A key ingredient in our Rose Water Facial Mist is hamamelis extract! Our Rose Facial Spray helps keep skin fresh and moisturized. It is great to use as a skin refresher throughout the day. Made without parabens, dyes, silicones, and sulfates. Cruelty free. Vegan.

If your skincare products have these ingredients in them, you'll be helping your skin look and feel its best!

Love,

grace & stella xo
